Things To Keep In Mind: West Kelowna Warriors in Chilliwack

silverbackspostgame

Chilliwack Chiefs (28-18-1-1 – 58 points, 2nd in Mainland)

VS West Kelowna Warriors (23-12-3-8 – 57 points, 3rd in Interior)

(Prospera Centre  –  6:30 pregame/7pm faceoff on 89.5 The Hawk)

THE LINEUPS

1. As it has been the past couple weeks, it’s two teams going in different directions, with the Chiefs as the ‘other’ team in that age old analogy. Chilliwack’s dropped six of their last seven games, while the Warriors come in having won four straight. Four times in those seven games for the Chiefs, they have only scored one goal. One game that trend wasn’t the case? February 2nd in West Kelowna, where they scored five times in a 7-5 defeat. Chilliwack put up a five spot their last time out on home ice against Alberni Valley, and may need a similar outcome tonight to ensure a victory.

2. They won’t need five goals, however, if they can shore up their coverage down low. West Kelowna moved the puck exceptionally well in that game at the beginning of the month, but it’s up to the Chilliwack defenders, and forwards near the net to take away that space. West K hasn’t exactly missed any beats despite the suspensions in their lineup. The Warriors are also breathing down the necks of Merritt for home ice advantage in the first round of the Interior playoffs. Lots to play for for Rylan Firster’s club.

3. The Chiefs showed some positives in Sunday evening’s home ice victory against Alberni Valley. This is a team that’s struggled on home ice, and there’s really no rhyme or reason to it. They’ll have to continue that this evening, and make Prospera a difficult place to play. Last change helps, sure, but the Chiefs must establish their forecheck and energy like they did in the first half of the last meeting between the two teams. The Chiefs jumped out to a 3-0 advantage in that game, as you may recall.
