Northern Weekend: Chiefs In Prince George

ChfVSPrincegeorge

Chilliwack Chiefs (24-12-1-1 – 50 points, 2nd in Mainland)

VS Prince George Spruce Kings (19-12-1-6 – 45 points, 3rd in Mainland)

(Prince George Coliseum  –  6:30 pregame/7pm faceoff on 89.5 The Hawk)

A few things in advance of this evening:

– More has been handed down by the BCHL in regards to suspensions stemming from Saturday’s incident in Victoria. Shay Laurent, Trevor Hills, and Tanner Cochrane are not on the trip this weekend. Laurent had two games tacked on for his role in a second fight. Hills was suspended one extra game for his role, and Tanner Cochrane was suspended for one game. David Thompson, Jaret Babych, and Mathieu Tibbet were also given a one game penalty, but that will be decided at the discretion of the coaching staff. All three are expected to play this evening. The McHaffie brothers, Scott and Spencer draw in tonight, as well as fellow AP Brandon Volpe.

– The McHaffie’s should be ready to go tonight – They played 1/3rd of a season with the Spruce Kings last year, and this weekend will mark their return to the Coliseum.

– Chilliwack had a lot of success the last time they were here, taking two games by a score of 8-0, but that was two months ago. Prince George has played much better since then, and boast a crew of quick, talented forwards that beat other teams by committee. Coltyn Hansen is one of those players to watch with his speed through the neutral zone. He’s joined by Cam Lawson, Chad Staley, Jeremiah Lutedke – Gap control for the Chiefs, and limiting PG’s room in the middle of the ice will be one of the big keys tonight.

– Tonight’s game also marks the fourth for both Tanner Burns and Phil Zielonka. Burns’ physical style on the forecheck should be a factor here, and Zielonka has found the net twice in his first three games with the Chiefs, including an overtime winner against Prince George one week ago.

– Chilliwack’s gone a full month without consecutive victories. They can make it two in a row tonight. Warrants mentioning.

– Harvey Smyl is flying solo on the bench this weekend – Brandon Fleenor has been suspended indefinetley, as his role last Saturday is still being looked at by the league, and fellow assistant Doug Ast is in Arizona this weekend on a scouting trip.

Special Teams:

Chilliwack – Powerplay – 21.93 % (5th) /Penalty Kill – 85.78% – (1st)

Prince George – Powerplay – 16.67 % (15th) / Penalty Kill – 80.86% – (8th)
